Originally established in 1978 after being replanted from a lucerne (alfalfa) farm, Phil and Chris Rose began hand planting vines, and after contract growing grapes for many years they decided to produce their own wine in 1991, and the Wairau River label was born. Now run by the next generation of the Rose family, Sam has spent his former years working with some of the best winemakers in the region producing award-winning Sauvignon Blanc.
Hand harvested in the cool early mornings of late March, whole clusters were given a small amount of skin contact before being gently pressed with only the free run juice being used to retain fruit purity and finesse. Then fermented in stainless steel to preserve its freshness.
Producing elegant citrus blossom accompanied by green apples and grapefruit. The palate is vibrant and well defined with a mineral acidity that provides great balance.
