Compass Box spent over two decades proving that blending whisky is an art form — one worth getting excited about. Neither distiller nor traditional blender, they call themselves Whiskymakers, and the title is earned. For Compass Box, exceptional whisky isn't a happy accident — it's the result of deliberate imagination, meticulous craft, and an unrelenting desire to reinvent rather than repeat.
The Story of The Spaniard
This malt whisky blend, first released in 2018, showcases whiskies aged in Spanish wine casks. It was inspired by another whisky they created for a bar in New York City called 'The Spaniard' and from it Compass Box decided to explore the sherried style further to create a version of this whisky for their range.
The first batches of The Story of the Spaniard had not just sherry-seasoned casks but also wine casks: their nod to the great similarities of whiskymaking and winemaking. The recipe has evolved over time, and yet that underlying full, soft and sumptuous character of sherry has always remained.
Unctuous on the palate with notes of citrus peel, red wine and spices. The finish is long, with hints of rich vanilla panna cotta, ripe berries and cherries.
This product has been retired by Compass Box at the end of 2024 and we only have a few bottles left.
