Textura, a dynamic new venture, is making a significant impact in Portugal's flourishing wine scene. Founded in 2018 by Marcelo Araujo, this budding winery is nestled on the slopes of Serra da Estrela, within the prestigious Dao appellation.

The estate manages 22 hectares of vineyards, a combination of owned and leased plots, strategically spread across two distinct Dao subzones. The Serra da Estrela subzone contributes to the production of more delicate reds and whites, while the Castendo subzone yields wines of greater opulence and aromatic complexity.

This diverse vineyard portfolio allows Textura to harness a wide array of terroir influences, including varied soil compositions, altitudes, exposures, and microclimates. Such diversity provides Araujo with a rich palette of viticultural resources, enabling the creation of wines that truly express the multifaceted character of the Dao region.

Pretexto, Textura estate's introductory red wine, blends grapes from multiple subzones to create a fresh, approachable style. This harmonious blend combines four varieties: Jaen, Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, and Touriga Nacional. The wine undergoes fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with varying proportions of whole bunches used depending on the grape variety.

The aging process involves a combination of small and large barrels, contributing to the wine's complexity. A 30-day cuvaison and the inclusion of a small percentage of whole berries introduce a touch of carbonic maceration, enhancing the wine's profile with lifted, delicate fruit flavors.

On the nose, Pretexto presents ripe, peppery, and juicy aromas. The palate offers a delightful combination of herbal notes, forest fruits, and subtle pine accents. This thoughtfully crafted blend showcases the diverse terroir of the estate while maintaining an accessible and enjoyable character. Serve with game, red meat and poultry roasts.
