This historic property is considered on of the top producers in Saumur-Champigny in the Loire Valley. The château has been in the family for 5 generations, and today, is run by Philippe Vatan. The estate is located four miles east of Saumur and fifteen miles west of Chinon. The estate's Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc vines are organically grown on top of 18.5 hectares of tuffeau-limestone soils.
Château du Hureau's "Tuffe" is made from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes that are hand-picked and hand-sorted. All the grapes are vinified with indigenous yeasts and matured in tank. In the glass the wine is a dark ruby color with purple highlights and intense aromas of red fruits, pepper and an almost graphite minerality. Medim bodied with persistent acidity, the Tuffe has a broad palate and rich, complex earth, spice and fruit flavors. The wine finishes clean and smooth with a wonderful balance of acid and fruit. Pair with Szechuan beef or pork dishes for an adventurous meal or enjoy with vegetable chili.
