Pineau des Charentes Blanc, Chateau Montifaud

Pineau des Charentes is usually made from Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche and colombard with the occassional adition of grapes such as Semillon or Sauvignon Blanc. Just before the crushed grapes start fermenting, (or sometimes just after) the juice is fortified with brandy to 17% alcohol. By law, the wine should then be aged for a minimum of 18 months, including 8 months in oak barrels.
