Produced from grapes in the Schapenberg sub-region of Stellenbosch, it is renowned for being a cooler and more windswept area, allowing varieties such as Merlot to produce smaller yields and have a longer ripening time, ensuring a balanced flavour with elegant tannins.
Created by the talented young cellarmaster Nadia Langenegger, the grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed and sorted before being placed in open-top wooden fermenters to naturally ferment using the natural wild yeast present, then aged in old barrels before lightly filtering and bottling.
This produces a ripe and approachable wine. On the nose it gives aromas of red cherry, cassis and plum; the palate opens up to fresh and supple red berry fruit alongside fine tannins. Matches wonderfully with beef stew or lamb cobbler.
