Produced by New Zealand winemaker Emma Lowe and Chilean vineyard manager Marcelo Nunez on the banks of the Ngaruroro River in Crownthorpe, a cool, high-altitude district of Hawke's Bay, they handcraft their wines using exclusively grapes grown on their 22-hectare vineyard.
Monowai was the first family-owned winery to establish itself in the Crownthorpe subregion of Hawke's Bay. The cooler range of temperatures complements and enhances the natural fruit characteristics of the wines they produce.
The Chardonnay is fully fermented and aged in old French oak barrels for 10 months before bottling, producing a balance of fresh fruit alongside malolactic and oak influences. This results in a full-bodied wine with stone fruit flavours, buttery and nutty notes, ending with a refreshing citrus finish. It pairs perfectly with roast chicken, mushroom risotto, or butternut squash cannelloni.
