La Cayetana Malbec
La Cayetana Malbec

This wine is actually something of a diversion for La Cayetana. The other wines can be broadly characterised by tension, precision and very fine balance. This Malbec is no less impressive, but is stylistically more of a nod to the past. The grapes were picked as early as opportunity would allow, from a very, very old vineyard in Lunlunta (probably slightly later-picked than Eduardo Soler would have liked). The wine is a classic in that it evokes the immense concentration of the old-vine fruit to perfection. It is a deep, brooding, generous Malbec redolent of flowers and rich black fruits on the nose; spice and fruit cake (but not jam!) in the mouth; a Malbec that could not really be from anywhere else in Mendoza let alone Argentina; truly an example of terroir bottled.
