Ian D’Agata is one of Italy’s most well-known and respected wine experts and he says, “Simply put, Gulfi is one of the best – if not the best – producers of Nero d’Avola wines in Sicily as well as one of Italy’s top wine estates.”
So, Gulfi’s Rossojbleo – an organic and unoaked Nero d’Avola – should be on every wine lover’s radar. Red as a ruby and brimming with summer berry, cherry and plum fruit, this red is fabulous value for money. Fresh and harmonious, it’s one of our absolute favourites for pizza night.
Gulfi is one of Sicily’s most cherished, award winning and iconic wineries. Their vineyards stretch from Sicily’s extreme south-eastern tip, all the way up the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. Raffaele Catania began making wines in 1970s, and Gulfi has passed through two more generations of the family since. Committed to sustainability and minimal intervention, their certified-organic vines are trained like little trees, this helps them to cope with the extreme conditions, shading themselves and preventing them from needing irrigating. Their consulting winemaker, Savlo Foti, has probably forgotten more about Sicilian wine than most other know. Together, they create wines that tell the true story of Sicily – one of the world’s most exciting wine regions.
