Felton Road is a winery that farms four properties totalling 34 hectares in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago, New Zealand. The majority of their Chardonnay grapes are grown on the Elms vineyard, specifically in Blocks 2, 6, 8, and 9. Approximately 10% of the Chardonnay comes from the Cornish Point vineyard.
The vineyards feature a range of altitudes and aspects, with the soils consisting mostly of deep schist gravels. Felton Road employs meticulous vineyard management practices during the growing season to ensure even and early fruit maturity. Cover crops are also planted between the vine rows to help maintain vine balance and improve overall soil health and biodiversity in the vineyards.
Producer's tasting notes: A surprisingly overt nose: citrus flowers, elderflower and crushed stone. The palate is, by contrast, dancing rather than shouting: white peach, citrus and florals that weave around a centre spine of acid with hints of brioche. No single part dominates, allowing the flavours to all have their spot in the limelight. The dance settles to a seamless saline and mineral finish, pure to the very end.
