Julien Barrot of Domaine la Barroche represents the rising generation of southern Rhône winemakers. After studying oenology in Montpellier, Julien explored vineyards across France and Australia, broadening his perspective. In 2002, he joined his father, bringing a renewed focus on terroir. This collaboration led to the estate's first bottled wines in 2003, marking a shift from three decades of bulk wine production under Julien's father, Christian.

Domaine la Barroche spans 12 hectares, planted with traditional varieties: Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, Cinsault, Terret Noir, and Clairette. The vineyard boasts an average vine age of 60 years, with a third exceeding a century (primarily Grenache).

Their prized holdings lie in Châteauneuf's esteemed sectors, notably at the intersection of sandy Rayas, Pointu, and Grand Pierre. The winemaking process emphasizes gentle handling: hand-harvesting, concrete vat fermentation, and aging in a mix of large old foudres and smaller oak barrels. Gravity-flow techniques are employed throughout.

The resulting wine showcases a luxurious texture. Initial notes of ripe bramble and black cherry evolve into enticing summer pudding and soft vanilla flavours, accented by salt and pepper spice. This blend combines 14 parcels, predominantly old-vine Grenache (60%), with 20% Mourvedre, and the remainder split between Syrah and Cinsault.
