Alexander III, who reigned as King of Scots from 1249 until his death in 1286, is widely regarded as one of Scotland's most successful medieval monarchs. During his reign he strengthened Scottish independence, secured the Western Isles through the Treaty of Perth, and repelled a Norwegian invasion at the Battle of Largs. His rule is often looked back on as a golden age of peace and prosperity for the kingdom.
It was during his reign, in 1263, that Colin of Kintail, the first chieftain of Clan Mackenzie, saved the king from a charging stag, and in gratitude Alexander III bestowed upon him the emblem of the 12-pointed Royal Stag. Centuries later, when descendants of Clan Mackenzie took control of the distillery in 1867, they adopted the Royal Stag emblem for every bottle of The Dalmore, both honouring their ancestral legacy and serving as a guarantee of peerless quality.
The Dalmore Kink Alexander III is made with no less than six cask finishes – small batch Bourbon casks, Matusalem Oloroso Sherry casks, Madeira casks, Marsala casks, Port pipes and Cabernet Sauvignon wine barriques – All six exquisitely married, to craft a truly one-of-a-kind whisky with a rich and enticing flavour profile including red berry fruits and hints of passion fruit on the nose followed by luxurious notes of citrus zest, vanilla pod, crème caramel, and crushed almonds on the palate. Cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger intertwine on the very long finish.
