Compass Box Ultramarine - The Extinct Blends Quartet 

Bottles of Scotch whisky are time capsules. Blends in particular have a way of capturing the mood and methods of their era — and as fashions change, so do recipes. The blended whiskies of the '70s, '80s and '90s are worlds apart from today's versions, even under the same brand name. The Extinct Blends Quartet brings four of Compass Box's favourite lost blends back to life, using some of their rarest and most characterful whisky stocks.

Ultramarine takes as its inspiration the antique Sherry and pipe tobacco notes of a deluxe blended Scotch, first released in the late 1980s.

Powerfully flavoursome and impressively textural, the first release in the Extinct Blends Quartet relies on mature malts from the Caol Ila and Glendullan distilleries and aged grains from the Cameronbridge and Girvan distilleries.

Toffee, antique polished oak and complex peatiness are primary aromas, with a palate of roasted pecan, raisins and smoke.
