Born in 2000 from a passion for pushing boundaries, Compass Box spent over two decades proving that blending whisky is an art form — the result of deliberate imagination, meticulous craft, and an unrelenting desire to reinvent rather than repeat.
Compass Box The Circle No. 2 — Limited Edition
The Circle No. 2 has a wonderfully unusual origin story. The Circle is Compass Box's international bartender competition — a creative exchange between the bar world and the whiskymakers.
When Mannie Monaghan won in 2019 and the they began collaborating on a whisky together, they found out he is synaesthetic. For Mannie, aromas and flavours reveal themselves as colours, and he had a clear vision: he wanted his whisky to taste like coral (the colour).
What followed was a fascinating process of sensory translation. Over two lengthy sessions in the Blending Room, Mannie worked through sample after sample, searching for whiskies that captured the warmth and positivity of living Coral.
The result is a blend of tropically fruity malts from Glen Elgin and Speyburn, shaped by Oloroso Sherry casks, with a gentle herbal peat note from Ardmore. Bright pineapple and stewed peach leap from the glass, giving way to vanilla, honey and sultanas soaked in Cognac.
