In the 1980s Piedmont's native Timorasso was nearly extinct until a handful of producers including Claudio Mariotto started producing some fantastic native whites. Intense, long, persistent, floral, fruity, with a warming sensation on the palate. Soft, elegant, and concentrated. Very typical of Timorasso, mineral with notes of chamomile, ripe yellow plums, and toasted almond in the finish.
Timorasso is growing in popularity and is frequently appearing on restaurant wine lists. If you're a fan of mineral whites then you should give the food-friendly Timorasso a go.
