Nestled in the heart of Chianti Classico, Fonterutoli sits 5 km south of Castellina in Chianti, overlooking the Val d'Elsa. This historic estate, owned by the Mazzei family since 1435, maintains its charm as a quaint country village. It features a collection of houses, the San Miniato church, and a villa built in the late 1500s on the site of a medieval castle.
The estate now boasts 117 hectares of vineyards, primarily planted with Sangiovese. Other varietals include Merlot, Colorino, Malvasia Nera, and Cabernet Sauvignon. The cellar, designed by Agnesi Mazzei, is a marvel of the region, notable for its minimal environmental impact.
The Siepi Vineyard spans 6 hectares at an elevation of 260 meters above sea level, with a south and south-west aspect. Its soil is predominantly Alberese, supporting vines ranging from 13 to 26 years old. Situated on a sun-drenched plateau surrounded by oak forest, it benefits from a unique microclimate, enjoying excellent light exposure and significant day-night temperature variations.
Tasting Notes: The wine presents a monumental structure with crisp notes of elder, plum, and berries. Hints of sandalwood and tobacco complement the palate, leading to a long, vibrant finish. Pairs extremely well with rich, textured dishes, especially those featuring dark sauces. It's an excellent companion to game meats and blue cheeses.
