Deep dense purple in colour with a rich spicy plum, blackberry nose, along with notes of violet, spice, vanilla and cedar. Powerful ripe red fruit mixed with prunes and more sweet vanilla from the oak, with liquorice and dark chocolate on the finish. The wine has a lovely rich palate weight with balanced grainy tannins matched by refreshing acidity. This is a wine that will age for a decade or more.
This single vineyard site is located high in the Alto Agrelo region of Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza. Here, the alluvial soil surrounded by large boulders, has good drainage, limestone and low organic material which produces wines with greater concentration of flavours. Due to the wide temperature range in this area, the grapes ripen slowly. All grapes are harvested by hand in April and fermented in small cement vats, which makes it possible to obtain softer tannins. The wine is aged in fine grain French oak barrels for 18-24 months to achieve its unique and subtle aromas.
