Collection: CHARTREUSE
Chartreuse is a French liqueur with a vibrant green or yellow hue, originally created by Carthusian monks in 1737. Its recipe, said to include 130 herbs, plants, and flowers, was based on a manuscript given to the monks in 1605 by a French marshal. Produced in the Chartreuse Mountains near Grenoble, the liqueur was named after the monastery itself. Over the centuries, it gained a cult like following, renowned for both its complex flavor and supposed medicinal qualities. Today, the exact recipe remains a closely guarded secret, known only to two monks at any given time. Demand for these mysterious liqueurs has exploded in recent times, and as the Monks have no intention of upping production levels due to their monastical duties, there have been wide spread shortages.
