Field and Fawcett Wine Merchants and Delicatessen was founded in August 2006 by Peter and Cathryn Fawcett.
After 22 years in the wine trade, Peter decided it was about time he set out on his own. He invited his wife Cathryn to go on the journey with him to run a delicatessen alongside his wines.
Once they had planning permission they set to work renovating part of the redundant buildings on the family farm which once housed dairy cows. Three years later they had outgrown this space and doubled the size of the shop in 2009.
Peter and Cathryn are passionate about wine, food and excellent customer service and they have built a business on these key elements. Peter enjoys a reputation as one of the leading wine experts in the North of England and works hard to ensure that Field and Fawcett’s clients are supplied with only the best wines whatever their budget.
He thrives on sourcing new wines, negotiating the best offers for his clients and supplying some of the best hotels, bars and restaurants around the country.
Their shop at Grimston Bar, York provides a range of quality wines, champagnes, spirits (particularly the selection of whiskies) and beers to suit all budgets and provides an over the counter service, by the bottle or by the case.
There are approximately 60 cheeses stocked in the deli including British and European artisan cheeses. This sits alongside a large charcuterie offering. We always have cakes and bakes in the counter all baked in house such as breads, quiches, tarts and not to mention the famous sausage rolls. In our food hall we stock local and imported ambient goods.
