Inspiring wine: wonderfully intense, wonderfully scented and ripe, but wonderfully cool in style. You simply can't get flavours as lovely as this in hot conditions. Chile is rapidly developing new vineyard areas and has an expanding and impressive roll-call of grape varieties at which she excels. Syrah is one of them. This is like a top northern Rhone Syrah from a very good year. It smells of fresh blackberries and summer evening bonfire smoke and then it billows out with a sumptuous texture - blackberries and loganberries, syrupy soft, but roughened by wood smoke and the lightest smack of tannin. While consultant Ronan Sayburn MS said: 'Very Chilean, with its lean bright crème de cassis nose, fresh, herbal, minty, gamey and liquorice notes,' team leader Richard Bampfield MW said: 'Mature, gamey and Rhône-like. Excellent Syrah typicity, with fine cool-climate character and a savoury finish.'
