This is a young estate in southwestern Sicily, whose vineyards caught the eye and winemaking talents of Valentino Sciotti. Valentino (of Gran Sasso and Vesevo) saw they had great vineyards and a good winery but were missing the necessary expertise to make wines the market required. Valentino and his team of young winemakers have taken the raw materials and transformed them into wines that people want to drink.
As soon as the grapes were ripe, the canes are cut and the grapes allowed to dry naturally in the hot Sicilian sun. When they had lost about 30% of their weight, the grapes are then harvested, pressed and undergo a long maceration on the skins. The wine is then aged for six months in barrique before bottling.
Bright ruby red in the glass with intense aromas of red fruits, spices and red flowers. The wine is vibrant, full and intense with a bright red fruit character. Warm, with a silky texture, it is well-balanced with a persistent finish.
Everyone is catching on to the splendour of Il Passo. Made from young Nerello Mascalese and Nero D’Avola vines, grown on the hills around Lake Arancio in Sambuca di Sicilia, this is the most impressive, modern Italian red of the summer. The grapes are allowed to dry a little in the hot Sicilian sun, so that they concentrate their sugars. With a longer maceration on the skins to extract delicious, plush notes and only six months ageing in barrique, so there are no coarse oak notes, you have a genius wine. The mouth-coating black plum and root liquorice notes make this the definitive barbecue wine.
