In the mid-1980s the Rubino family founded the winery through the acquisition of a number of smaller estates that, within a decade, came to form Tenute Rubino. It is an important productive reality of Puglia with more than 500 hectares, 200 of which are devoted to viticulture of excellence.
Tenute Rubino has kept releasing, one vintage after the other, wines of great interest and character, expression of the family’s dedication to enhance the value of native varieties and utilize those viticulture-practices that concentrate on the peculiarity of each varietal: Primitivo, Negroamaro, White and Black Malvasia, and, most of all, Susumaniello, a unique and rare species of vine (previously faced with the danger of extinction) now on the comeback trail.
Fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Maceration lasts for 12 days at controlled temperature.
Malolactic fermentation is totally carried out. Bright ruby red colour. On the nose it displays ethereal and enveloping notes of cherries in brandy, plum, blackberry, blackcurrant, along with distinct nuances of black pepper, tobacco, liquorice, thyme, rosemary, leather and juniper. On the palate it is warm and elegant, it shows fullness with a well-balanced alcohol structure, velvety and harmonious, long and persistent, rich of gentle and smooth tannins.
This is an intense and charming wine, with integral and ripe fruit, which wonderfully combines its important pulpy and lively structure with a balanced acidity and well-defined tannins.
