During the last 40 years Giancarlo Travaglini has managed to take the name of this historical wine (Gattinara) around the world. Northern Piedmont has a long tradition in the production of the outstanding red wines based mainly on the Nebbiolo grape. These wines paved the way, and made possible the production of the Langhe?s most famous wines: Barolo and Barbaresco. There are several DOC/DOCG?s in the Vercelli, Novara and Biella provinces with Gattinara being the most well known. Travaglini cultivate around 50 hectares out of a total of only 150 hectares for all the DOCG?s. At this highly regarded winery the wines are traditionally crafted with medium to long macerations and aging in large Slavonian oak. The Nebbiolo is complex and refined with classic full body palate. The three Gattinara are simply outstanding examples of old world, traditionally crafted red wines that age gracefully gaining complexity as time passes. This Gattinara has a charming and structured bouquet with red fruit, blackberry, plum and liquorice with hints of vanilla, cream and leather.
