Valcanzjria is an organic blend of Chardonnay and Carricante, an indigenous variety thought to have been grown on Etna for more than a thousand years. Carricante’s acidity is the perfect partner to the richer and more full-bodied Chardonnay, creating a moreish and dry white wine that bristles with exotic fruit, apple, wildflower honey, star anise and almond.
Gulfi is one of Sicily’s most cherished, award winning and iconic wineries. Their vineyards stretch from Sicily’s extreme south-eastern tip, all the way up the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. Raffaele Catania began making wines in 1970s, and Gulfi has passed through two more generations of the family since. Committed to sustainability and minimal intervention, their certified-organic vines are trained like little trees, this helps them to cope with the extreme conditions, shading themselves and preventing them from needing irrigating. Their consulting winemaker, Savlo Foti, has probably forgotten more about Sicilian wine than most other know. Together, they create wines that tell the true story of Sicily – one of the world’s most exciting wine regions.
