Antony Terryn is one of those winemakers whose unbridled passion for his soil, vines and winemaking allows him to transcend those around him. Having made wine in some of the world’s most prestigious arenas, including his native France, Antony settled on a patch of ‘old vine’ Tinto de Toro (Tempranillo) near the town of Toro in North-West Spain. An area normally associated with low-cost bulk wine, Antony has made those obsessed with producing fine wine reassess this terroir.
El Primer Paso is aged during at least six months in American and French oak barrels. This good balance between them, allows me to accomplish a very nice and tasty wine, a Toro that gives a lot of pleasure in its youth and also ageing very well from 5 to 10 years depending on the vintage.
An open nose of black and red fruits. A mouth well structured and round, with polished tannins and a long and tasty end. The register aromatic on the palate, red fruits, blackberry, touch of liquorice, coffee and roast notes.
