Chateau Giscours, 3eme Cru Classe, 75cl
Like many Bordeaux chateau, Giscours has benefited from heavy investment in the last 25 years, that has produced renewed focus on quality and restored the estate to its past glory. Located in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux, Giscours' 40 hectares of vineyard is situated on three gravel hilltops deposited from the Garonne, making for an ideal terrroir. The gravel reflects the sun's rays and helps to maintain a stable temperature giving perfect ripening conditions. The gentle climate is another beneficial factor and the subtle balance gives the terroir its distinctive fines
It has a perfumed bouquet with black fruit, a touch of oyster shell and iris, very pure and quite sensual in style. It does not make an immediate impact but rather grows on you. The palate is medium-bodied, the mouthfeel supple, smooth and harmonious with fine-grain tannin, perhaps just missing a little structure towards the conservative, straight-laced finish.
60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot
